This brassica also provides some nematode control, as well as other disease pathogen control. It is also excellent for bringing in beneficial insects.
Bayou Kale prefers sandy loam. Ideal pH is between 5.8 and 6.0, so be sure to treat soil appropriately. It has an ideal soil temperature of 45 °F. The seed is best planted between , at a depth between 1/4" and 1/2 inch. It will take a total of 60 lbs. of Nitrogen to perform well, and Phosphorus and Potash should be added based on soil tests. This plant grows rapidly, and will bloom and seed out during the Spring.
