There is a great possibility that ducks will thrive on this plant as well. Teosinte provides cover that birds love, however deer and rabbits will also enjoy its cover. Teosinte is a hard-seeded grain and will reseed itself each year. Simply wait until the following Spring, lightly till the soil, and Teosinte seed will sprout and produce a wildlife crop for many years to come.

Planting Guide

Teosinte prefers well-drained, sandy loam. Ideal pH is between 5.8 and 6.8, with an ideal soil temperature of 65 °F. The seed is best planted between April and July, at a depth between 1/4" and 1 inch. It will take a total of 120 lbs. of Nitrogen; 30 lbs. at planting and then another 90 lbs. at sidedness time. Also add 60 lbs. of Phosphorus and 80 lbs. of Potash. Teosinte will grow similarly to most corn crops.
