The deep roots on this plant scavenge for nutrients from the soil, which make them an attractive target for wildlife. The product is high in vitamins, however it’s not quite as great a forage as alfalfa.

Planting Guide

Sugar Beets will grow on almost every soil type. Ideal pH is between 6.0 and 8.0, with an ideal soil temperature of 50°F or above. The seed is best planted between April and September, at a depth between 1/4" and 1/2”. Add Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash based on a soil test. This plant will grow very slowly, and are not used widely in the South for this reason.
